Guestbook for Samuel P. Saunders Showing 1 - 10 of 10 entries.

After my Father passed away in 2004, I accompanied my Mother, Margaret Liddell (Brown) Redford to the last of the Maury High School Class of 1932 Reunions, which Sam organized, until the 75th and last Reunion in 2007. It was my pleasure to meet Sam, her classmate, at those luncheons, and also just a year ago, at the Maury High School Centennial. They had a good long time talking, and I know Sam had hoped to have one last small get-together for the remaining few survivors.

Mom was unaware of Sam’s passing, and she herself passed away on April 23rd, but I know she was always so delighted at being able to see many friends from so long ago, made possible by Sam’s kindness and generosity. I like to think that they are all having one more get-together about now, where they are all young again - just as in 1932!

My sincere condolences to the family for their loss of a member of this treasured generation.

The loss of this dear man is huge. I had the great pleasure of having him for a friend for the past 6 yrs, having met him while at Talbot.
We loved to reminisce about past years, old Norfolk and old friends who had passed away. Talbot will never be the same, but I am so much richer for having known this sweet man. To his family...you are in my prayers. I am beyond grateful for having had Sam in my life.

Sam was a wonderful asset to the Talbot on Granby. He was always pleasant and had very interesting stories to tell everyone about his own life and life in general. He stayed up on current events and could add to conversation on most any issue of local or national import. We will miss his presence greatly and are so sorry for your loss.

When I came to work at The Talbot on Granby four years ago, Sam was one of the first residents to welcome me. From that day on, I looked forward to a warm greeting from Sam each morning, as well as a few words of wisdom. He would most often be seen sitting in the library doing a crossword puzzle or sudoku. Sam Saunders was most impressive for his age. When I needed information Sam was the go to person. He was one of The Talbot's first residents and staff often referred to him as "The Mayor". It's been an honor and priviledge to have known Sam Saunders. He will remain in my heart and the memories of The Talbot always.

We were so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Samuel Saunders. Jane remembers him when she worked at the grocery store that he ran at Norview many years ago. He was a very good man who ran the store in a friendly, professional manner. He was friendly and good to his employees. Even in years later, whenever he saw either of us, he always had a smile and kind words.
We remember him very fondly.

For Sam's Family, his dear ones of whom he spoke about often and very fondly, please accept our sincere condolences. We have come to know Sam through his friendship with our friend, Barbara Lang. Sam accompanied Barbara on Wednesday mornings to be with our group of eight studying the Hebrew Scriptures. His knowledge of the Scriptures, his wisdom, his keen mind and his good sense of humor are memorial gifts to us that all of us will cherish. In such a brief period of time, he touched our lives immensely. Sam will be missed by all of us.
I asked Sam if he knew my Dad, Nick Scarborough, who, if living, would be the same age as Sam. Yes, Sam said, "I knew Nick". He worked for Colonial Stores and I with BeLo. Our lives connect in ways we can't understand. It must be the mystery of God's kingdom.
