Thelmond R. Hinson
Virginia Beach - Thelmond R. Hinson, born July 4, 1941 in Dublin, Georgia, passed away February 3, 2010, after a long battle with cancer.
Thelmond worked in the construction industry for many years beginning in Northern Virginia with D. A. Foster Co. He was an integral part in the installation of the eternal flame at the grave of John F. Kennedy. In 1968, Thelmond relocated his family to Virginia Beach to lead Krauss Construction Company which he purchased in 1974. A lifetime member of the Elks #2268, he was also a member of the Moose Lodge, and an honorary member of the VFW. He donated many hours, equipment, and man power to Club Brittany Swim Club and Boys Baseball of Lynnhaven while his kids were participating.
Thelmond was preceded in death by his parents Levi and Roberta and a brother Ray. Left to cherish his life are his loving wife of 49 years Kay, son Scott (Donna), daughter Pam (Paul), son Steven (Diane), son Keith (Karen) and grandchildren Meagan, Trevor, John Ross, Morgan, Ryan, Ashlyn and Ethan. Also surviving are his siblings Grady, Dorothy, and Jackie as well as many nieces, nephews, and great friends.
Visitation with the family will be held Friday, February 12, 2010, from 6:30 to 7:30 at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road Chapel. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 13, 2010, at 1:00 at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road Chapel. The family would like to thank Drs. Debo, Greenberg, and Warth for their caring and compassion.
