Eli Mitri Habib, 57, passed away on Tuesday morning, January 10, 2017 at work, The French Bakery and Delicatessen on Granby Street, Norfolk, VA, his family's 100 plus year old business.
Born in Norfolk, VA, he was the beloved son of the late George Elias Habib, Sr. and is survived by his Mother, Haifa Moujais Habib, of Norfolk.
Eli graduated from Norfolk Catholic High School and attended Ferrum College. He grew up in the family business working with his parents, brother, George, uncle, Mounir Moujais and his late maternal grandmother, Barbara Moujais, as a co-baker and sandwich maker. He opened and operated a branch of the family business in Portsmouth for three years. He also worked for over 10 years as a Building Engineer with Decker, Cardon & Thomas ETAL P.C. and prior to that with Decker Construction as a Manager.
He was a Mason and a member of the Corinthian Masonic Lodge No. 266. He loved boating and fishing. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and customers.
Eli is survived by his wife, Lory Lewis Habib; his mother, Haifa Moujais Habib; two brothers, George Habib, Jr., and Pierre Habib; and two sisters, Selma Habib and Sylvia Habib; and two nephews and a niece who he adored and several aunts and uncles and cousins.
Funeral Services and interment will be private.
Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 7220 Granby Street, Norfolk, VA 23505.
