Earl Valentine Branche, 81, went home to be with his Savior on Wednesday, August 15, 2012. He was born in Ivor, Virginia on April 10, 1931 to Herbert Edward and Maude Crumpler Branch. When Earl was a teenager, his family moved to Norfolk, Virginia and he graduated from Maury High School. Earl spent many years in the hospitality industry as a restaurant owner and also working in many of the upscale restaurants in the Lower Peninsula area. He retired as Maitre d'hotel of Antiquities Restaurant in Norfolk.

Earl was predeceased by his brothers, Herbert E. Branch, Jr., Lawrence T. Branche, and a sister, Jean Branch Faison. He was also predeceased by his sister-in-laws, Alice Branche and Vera Branch.

Although Earl never married, he was very much a family man. He was adored by many nieces and nephews who survive him. They are Donna G. Freeman, Brodnax, Va., Brenda F. Forbes (Al), Newport News, Va., Tamara F. Alderman (Larry). Orlando, Florida, Robert L. Faison, III (Nancy), Battery Park, Va., Lawrence T. Branche, Jr., Gambrills, Md., Karen L. Lampkins (Ron), Virginia Beach, Va., Herbert E. Branch, III, Newport News, Va., John E. Branche (Robin), Virginia Beach, Va., Jeffrey A. Branche, Lake Worth, Fl., and Jason Branche, Virginia Beach, Va. He is also survived by great nieces and nephews: Tracey D. Freeman-Meissel, Robert W. Guthrie, Jr., Cynthia G. Kiefer, Sarah and Rachel Faison and great grand nieces and nephews, Lexi, Lauren, Jack and Hadley Branche, Ron Lampkins, III., Grace and Will Guthrie and Kasey and Cameron Kiefer.

For those of us who knew Earl, he was a witty, fun-loving person who was adventurous and loved to travel. Most of all, he loved his family and every year insisted on hosting a family reunion at the old homestead in Ivor. He was always there for his family and will be greatly missed. Earl had many friends in many places and was the "toast of the town" at any event.

Earl was a life-long Baptist and very devoted to his church family at First Baptist Church of Virginia Beach where he was a member and a Deacon for many years.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, August 20, 2012 at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. A funeral service will be held at The First Baptist Church of Virginia Beach on 35th St & Holly Rd. in Virginia Beach on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 11:00 am followed by a reception at the church and then burial service at the Ivor Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be sent to the church or a charity of choice.

The family wishes to thank the many caregivers who assisted in Earl's care during his illness and especially to Drs. Bakhshi and Alberico and their staff.

Online condolences may be sent to hdoliver.com
