NORFOLK � Christine Turner Chamberlayne, 99, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2010 in Webster, N.Y. Born in Roanoke, Va., she was the daughter of the late Lelia Minter Turner and Charles Turner. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Alva B. Chamberlayne and her daughter, Martha Lynn Chamberlayne. Christine was a 1931 graduate of Hollins College. She was a school teacher in the Norfolk Public School System for 20 years having taught at Crossroads and Northside Elementary Schools. She was a longtime member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, the Garden Club of Norfolk, and the American Rose Society. She had a lifelong love of art and music leaving to her family many beautiful paintings that she created and, she expressed her love of music by teaching piano to many young Norfolk musicians. Christine was a loving and caring person. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Dorothy Sue C. Love and husband, Henry of Webster, N.Y.; two sons, Donald Wayne Chamberlayne and wife, Linda of Worchester, Mass. and Charles H. Chamberlayne and wife, Rinda of Norfolk; eight grandchildren, Christy C. Curtin and husband, Joe of Woodbridge, Va., Catherine L. Chamberlayne and John Hampden Chamberlayne and wife, Charlene both of Norfolk, Sarah K. Love of Webster, N.Y., Rebecca L. Picarillo and husband, Bob of Leesburg, Va., Matthew C. Love and wife, Jennifer of Winston Salem, N.C., Sarah Fay Riseman and husband, Lt. Charles Taylor of Portland, Ore. and Seth Riseman and wife, Christina, of Boulder, Colo.; and eleven great grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2010 in Woodlawn Memorial Park by The Rev. Mr. A. Bruce Carper. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the care and direction of H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel.
