NORFOLK – Mary Hope Harcum, 96, died on Tues., July 20, 2010. Born in Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late Christie Barker Harcum and Oren Lloyd Harcum.
She attended Larchmont Elementary, Blair Junior High, and graduated from Maury High School in 1931. She also attended Mary Washington College and Old Dominion University.
Mary Hope had been a member of Larchmont United Methodist Church for 85 years.
She was employed by the National Red Cross in Washington, D.C in the service to Military Installation Division. She worked at military bases in the United States, Korea, Japan, and Vietnam. After her retirement in August of 1975, she divided her time between her home in the Larchmont section of Norfolk and her home in Allen, Md.
Mary Hope was an only child and is survived by cousins and friends.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2010 in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Reverends Scott Rimer and Sarah Wastella.
