CHESAPEAKE, VIRGINIA; Elizabeth Alston Harley, 78 of the 400 block of River Arch Drive, died Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was a native and longtime resident of New York, New York and a resident of Chesapeake for the past five years. She was the daughter of the late James Alston and Elizabeth Artis Alston Morris and was preceded in death by her son Edward Cecil Harley in 2006. She retired from the Arch Diocese of New York after many years of employment as a social worker.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Edward K. Harley of Chesapeake and her sons and daughters; Ronald Harley and his wife Andrea of Chesapeake, Nathan Harley and his wife Norma of Riverside, California, Diane Taylor and her husband William of Chesapeake, Kevin Harley and his wife Pauline of San Diego, California, Theresa C. Carrasquillo and her husband Michael of Albany, NY and Evelyn Harrell and her husband Christopher of Virginia Beach, her sister Jacqueline Quinn of Carmel, New York, 19 grandchildren, one great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held in Mount Lebanon Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. by Bishop Elect Kim W. Brown, on Thursday, March 11, 2010. The burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends in the Chesapeake Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1416 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA., on Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.hdoliver.com.
